Frequently asked questions
How is the growth compounded?
Every year — including year 1 — the share price grows by the price-growth rate, free (bonus) shares are added to your holding, and a cash dividend is paid (the dividend per share grows at the same rate as the price). If "Reinvest dividends" is on, those dividends buy more shares at the year-end price, so each year you earn growth, dividends, and bonus shares on a larger holding. That compounding is what drives the final value.
What are free shares?
Free or bonus shares are new shares a company issues to existing shareholders at no cost, expressed here as a percent of the shares you already hold. They increase your share count (and therefore future dividends and value), even though the price typically adjusts down when they are issued. You can override the rate for any year.
Can I change the assumptions for specific years?
Yes. The Price Growth %, Free Share %, and Dividend / Share columns are all editable. Click any cell to type a custom value for that single year; every other year keeps using the defaults from the assumptions above.
